Gleeks & their dang books!

I am never one to jump on the bandwagon...like ever. However, last night, at around 9pm on Fox 29, that changed. I have become a Gleek. For those of you who have NO IDEA what I am referring to, I have officially joined on the Glee bandwagon.  I am a fan and why should I not be? I am a former North Penn Thespian (not Lesbian).  Glee was made for my kind, it just took me long enough to get addicted. So why was I inspired to watch last night. Because they went Gaga of course! The cast sang two renditions of Lady Gaga's songs.  Now, thanks to an amazing friend, I am able to watch and catch up with the entire show by next Tuesday, when the next episode is.  Now, if Glee would just do an episode dedicated to La Roux, I would be in love.

I have a mission: to read the 50-something books I have purchased from various thrift stores and Amazon, by the end of this summer. Think I can do it? I am an avid reader and I do enjoy my books. However, I do work in a thrift store where dozens of amazing books come through the donation doors everyday. I can't help it that 47 cents for a paperback book with a 25% off employee discount is such a great price! I scored "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense of Sensibility" by Jane Austen for 47 cents each! I also got "Julie & Julia" by Julie Powell.  However, the book I just finished came from a fundraiser from my school. I scored 16 books for only $2! I picked up Stef Ann Holm's novel, Lucy Gets Her Life Back, at this fundraiser. I was intrigued by the cover because I DO judge a book by it's cover.  I really did enjoy it.  The book is about a single mom raising two boys by herself.  She moves into a wealthy town in hopes of pursuing a personal chef gig.  What she doesn't expect to find is the love of (the rest) of her life. I could totally see this book being made into a Lifetime movie (of course they would leave out the racy parts of the book). Overall, a good read. However, I think I might just donate it to Goodwill ;-)

I get questioned a lot on why I am obsessed with MTV's reality show, The Hills.  Honestly, I get a lot of my music from that show. I have discovered artists such as Dragonette, Natasha Bedingfield, and Stacy Clark on that show.  I recently bought Stacy Clark's EP album, Connect the Dots, off of Itunes. It was only $1.99 for 3 songs. I was highly anticipating this and as always, Stacy did not let me down. I first heard her song "Say What You Want" off her album, Apples & Oranges, from The Hills.  The song plays when Whitney Port leaves her office at Teen Vogue after she is done packing up.  Check out Stacy Clark at her myspace page. I bought Glee's version of "Bad Romance" and Marina & The Diamonds newly released CD, Family Jewels. I smell a review coming a long!

Ruled by La Roux

I live for those musical artists that you just cannot stop listening to.  For the past few days (and actually since last Fall 2009), I have been obsessively listening to British pop-duo, La Roux. 

I first heard "Bulletproof" on my college radio station, WCUR 91.7 FM (http://www.wcur.org). As a DJ, we are required to play 5 songs each hour from the top 30 college hits.  As long as we play those 5, or sometimes 10 songs, the radio station gets free music. It is a pretty awesome deal.  I first heard La Roux on my friend, Tenga's, morning show.  I was sitting in on his show for my own training in the radio station. He played "Bulletproof" and instantly, I was hooked.  During my sit-ins on my best friend, Karen's, show, I requested "Bulletproof" every time. 

I grew more and more curious about the musical artist, La Roux. I looked up there music video for "Bulletproof" on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUsbpmQ9-mc


I instantly noticed lead singer, Elly Jackson's, unique look.  It is not a style that I think would look amazing on me, but she makes it look damn sexy.  I love a woman with amazing style, and I mainly love it because it is her own! It is the same with the lovely Lady Gaga. Both artists have fabulous individuality.

It is her androgynous style that is literally turning me gay for her, sorry mom. But It is not just her looks that draw me towards her, it is more her music and voice. Every song off their album has me moving in my seat. I can't help but dance to every song. The other day at work, we were playing her album and I was dancing to every song while hanging clothes that were ready to be put out onto the store floor. Honestly, everyone should check them out.
